The 1st weekend and 70 games played at Step 6, must be time for some stats!
Here are your league leaders after the weekend, for some it might be the only time this season, so enjoy!
7 of the 17 Step 6 leagues had a full programme and only the United Counties Premier South didn't have a draw whereas the Northern Football League and Northern Counties East Premier both had 3 (30%) matches tied.
Looks like another entertaining season ahead with 3.84 goals per match average over the weekend.
The North West Counties Division 1 North returned 9 matches with an average of 4.44 goals per game but the North West Counties Division 1 South only saw 3.5 goals per game on average.
Home advantage doesn't seem to hold as much weight the further you go down the Non League pyramid but this weekend, Step 6 went against the trend with more home "advantage" than Step 5. Only the United Counties Division 1 saw the home teams keep less than 50% of the points on offer, 45.45% with an even 4 wins, 3 draws and 4 away wins. Each other Step 6 league saw home advantage telling with only the Eastern Counties Division 1 South seeing no away victory from 9 matches and 62.96% of the points remaining with the home team.
On average at Step 6, only 55.24% of the points remained with the teams playing at home. Away teams managed to take 36.67%. Will this continue?
100% records - 52 teams (who have played) kept their 100% record in tact, 32 teams are 3pts from 3 at home and 20 teams took a trip and remained 100%.
At the time of writing, only 13 of the 269 scorers are unknown.
There were 5 hat-trick heroes this weekend and 2 players netted 4 times!
Thomas Johnstone (Ashville FC) 4 NWCFL (1S)
Josh Crossley (Birstall United) 4 UCL (1)
Louis Samuels (Aylestone Park) 3 UCL (1)
Cory Thomas-Barker (Hallen) 3 WFL (1)
Luke Baldwin (Steeton) 3 NWCFL (1N)
Christopher Lomax (Pilkington) 3 NWCFL (1N)
Matthew Parkin (Retford) 3 NCEL (1)
and they top the scorers charts at this very early stage for Step 6.
Results wise, the most common Step 6 result this weekend was 1-1 with 10 out of the 70 matches ending this way. 3-1 was next with 6 results ending this way.
The Eastern Counties Division 1 South was the only league to see a 7 goal winning margin! This still didn't mean that they saw the least competitive round of fixtures. That accolade went to the Northern Counties East Division 1 with an average winning margin of 2.3 goals per game.
More to come in futures blog posts, you can never have too many stats....can you?
