Stats for Step 5 - Weekend no 1

The 1st weekend and 99 games played at Step 5, must be time for some stats!

Here are your league leaders after the weekend, for some it might be the only time this season, so enjoy!

10 of the 16 Step 5 leagues had a full programme and only the United Counties Premier South didn't have a draw whereas the Northern Football League and Northern Counties East Premier both had 3 (30%) matches tied.

Looks like another entertaining season ahead with 3.25 goals per match average over the weekend.

The Northern Football League returned 10 matches with an average of 4.2 goals per game but the Northern Counties East Premier only saw 2.5 goals per game on average.

Home advantage doesn't seem to hold as much weight the further you go down the Non League pyramid, after this weekend in the Northern Counties East Premier, home teams only kept 30% of the points on offer with only 2 teams out of the 10 managing to win. Conversely, in the United Counties Premier North, 63.33% on the points remained with the home team, with 6 wins for the hosts.

On average at Step 5, only 50.17% of the points remained with the teams playing at home. Away teams managed to take 44.11%. Will this continue?

100% records - 80 teams (who have played) kept their 100% record in tact, 42 teams are 3pts from 3 at home and 38 teams took a trip and remained 100%.

At the time of writing, only 12 of the 322 scorers are unknown.

There were 4 hat-trick heroes this weekend:

Elijah Coe (Easington Sports) 3 UCL (PS)

Devonte Newman-Morton (Eccleshill United) 3 NCEL (P)

Oli Leslie (Crawley Down Gatwick) 3 SCFL (P)

Arlie Desanges (Sutton Athletic) 3 SCEL (P)

and they top the scorers charts at this very early stage for Step 5.

Results wise, the most common Step 5 result this weekend was 0-1 with 11 out of the 99 matches ending this way. 2-1 was next with 8 results ending this way.

The Northern Division 1 was the only league to see a 6 goal winning margin and 2 of them! This still didn't mean that they saw the least competitive round of fixtures. That accolade went to the Western Premier League with an average winning margin of 2.3 goals per game.

More to come in futures blog posts, you can never have too many stats....can you?
